Lighting Questions, Answered

Everything you need to know before buying a single fixture.

Lumens needed = room area (m²) × target lux. A bedroom needs 100–150 lux, a kitchen 400–500 lux. A 20 m² living room requires roughly 3,000–4,000 lumens total across ambient, task, and accent layers.

Add the room's length and width in feet — the result in inches is the ideal chandelier diameter. For a 14 × 16 ft room, aim for around 30 inches (76 cm). Browse our chandelier collection.

2700K (warm white) suits bedrooms, living rooms, and dining areas. 3000K works well in bathrooms and hallways. 4000K is best for kitchens and home offices. Avoid 5000–6500K in living spaces.

Layered lighting uses ambient (general fill), task (focused for activities), and accent (decorative depth). A single overhead fixture looks flat. Three layers let you control mood by dimming sources independently.

In open rooms the bottom of a pendant should be at least 210 cm from the floor. Over a dining table, hang 70–80 cm above the surface. Over a kitchen island at 90 cm height, hang 60–75 cm above the surface.

No. Choose a consistent material palette (brass, black, chrome) and let fixture shapes vary. Consistency of finish, not uniformity of form, is what makes a home feel considered rather than like a catalogue.
